I discovered my knack for cooking at the age of 3. In my house I saw my mom cooking breakfast on Sundays, she cooked eggs with sausages, she cooked amazingly, so I wanted to cook like her so I asked her: "Can I cook with you? she said: "yes". I was so happy with cooking and I continued cooking .

As time passed, I cooked with my mother but I loved one time my brother , some cousins and me cooked cookies and brownies to sell... They were astonishing!

Nowadays, I cook delicious brownies, cookies,cakes, eggs etc.

Cooking really brings happiness to my live.

I shouldn’t say I , but I rather my grandmother and mother discovered my knack for drawing at the age of three. In the school l started to draw. This translated into pictures with more details. My first pictures were houses, people and faces. When I was 6 or 7 I started to draw with more details and I did cards to my family during birthdays or for mom´s and dad´s days . In the school I participated in Burst Into Art. I did pictures and my grandmother taught me techniques.

And now, I know to draw many things and I draw in the notebooks, in my house and I love to participate in Burst Into Art.

I like soccer. I discovered my talent at the age of 2. My favorite and first team is Inter. When I was in first I fell down and damaged my leg. In preschool, we won the cup in the Stadium Azteca and the Stadium Azul.

Nowadays, I go to the Campin to see play Santafe a lot. My inspiration is my dad and a player named Milito. I want to play in Inter´s team. I like soccer so much.

With my father as a goal keeper I scored goals ,so that helped me to practice my game an became a better player in my sport.I had a memory that was more o les when I have 7-8 years old : That day when I was playing soccer I twisted my ancle by kicking the ball, so I had to go to the infirmary, I called my parents and they picked me up, Then we go to the hospital when my foot was plastered.

I discovered my knack for cooking at the age of 8. When I arrived from school , I saw my mom cooking for me , my brother and my sister . She cooked deliciously. One day, I saw her cooking when I arrived from school and I told her that I wanted to learn to cook, she said to me that the weekend that was coming, we were going to prepare something special... It spent two days, first it was the day when I was going to do the surprise with my mom.I woke up, I took a bath and I dressed up. I ate my breakfast and then, some cousins of my mom arrived, I didn´t know why. Time passed, finally it was time for lunch. Now, I knew what was the surprise and why mom´s cousins were there. The surprise was sushi and mom´s cousins were there because they knew how to do it. We were all in family and I learned how to prepare sushi. After that, I began to cook more things like tuna sandwiches, maccaroni and cheese, pancakes ,etc.

Cooking is part of my fun.

I discovered my talent on my 4th Christmas. Those days, I sang Christmas songs every single morning and in the afternoons, I practiced at my kínder garden and when parents went to see us singing, they loved it but I enjoyed it much more.

As time passed, I sang in the schools musical fair. With that band I went to much bigger events like in Santafé, where we played for more than 600 people.

Nowadays, I sing in musical fairs, in the Christmas show and in different events. And with my band I practice every single Monday or Wednesday.

Singing truly brings joy to my life.

TENNIS

I started to play at 5 years old .

I played in festivals first . Then I played soccer for a long time period. Then , my parents bought me a tennis racket ,lt was of Rafael Nadal´s . Later on, I started to play interclubs with Serrezuela club.

After that, my mom and my dad got me 2 Rafael Nadal raquets .

Then, they got me in a very good tennis academy (H.K) With them, I have played a lot of tournaments out of Bogotá . I was in a tennis tournament V.S Nico Huertas . I lost 6-0 6-2 but I had fun .

Now , I am in HATOGRANDE club and I have playeda lot.

I started to play soccer at the age of three. Idiscovered it was great, when my grandmother started to watch a match and Iwatched it with her. My grandmother told me it was the best sport, so I startedto practice it. My favorite position was a midfielder.

When I wentto London, my mum entered me into the Chelsea training club. We trained everyholiday week. In my first week I won the trophy of “BEST PLAYER”.I was playingmuch better. At the age of seven I had already won five trophy´s.

Then Istarted playing in a team called “EAGLES UNITED”. I had a lot of fun in thatteam. In the first tournament Eagles United passed to the final but we lost 6-2against Fulham A. In Chelsea I kept on winning trophy´s. I finished with eighttrophy´s. In the last week I played for Chelsea, I won two trophy´s. That wasmy best week at Chelsea F.C. When I was nine I entered to GLM soccer team, wetrained all Friday´s.

Nowadays Istill play soccer in GLM and I have improved a lot. Now my favorite position isa striker. With GLM we won against very difficult teams such as Nueva Granadaand Nogales. Now my favorite soccer teams are REAL MADRID, MANCHESTER UNITED, INTERMILAN, and NACIONAL.

I really enjoyed reading and learning about the wonderful and interesting activities primary section has promoted. Congratulations to you all! Julian´s talent is amazing. I am sure he will really enjoy Home Economics class when he gets to Middle School. I laughed a lot when I saw the Primary teachers disguised and posing. Didn´t you?

I should say that my talent was discovered at the age of 4 with my mom`shelp.One day I saw my mom cooking a delicious tuna pasta and I told her Iwanted to help her to cook,she said Icould start with something simple like fried eggs and bacon.

As time passed I continued cooking eggs,pancakes,cakes,

Cookies,sandwiches…

Nowdays I have been cooking my breakfast,cupcakes,

Cookies,spaghetti,arepa,pancakes,cakes,sushi.Icreated new and originalflavors of milkshakes and smothies.

Our Cultural Week

Primary School had a wonderful time in different cultural activities during last week...

In the park “Jaime Duque” kids visited museums, monuments, and the zoo among other attractions!

We had a variety of events: the musical, presentations of rock bands, dancing time and the rally Around the World, all of them were great. Then, to end the week we had a presentation from Show Place, handmade bracelets time and our famous contest.

The Embassy of México in Colombia participated in our cultural week.

In our rally around the world, following countries were a stage for our kids to imagine how exciting different cultures are. Italy and the “Tanti Auguri a Te”, China with the magic of two teachers giving kids clues to understand chinese way of thinking, New Zealand showing the variety of a land in all senses, Egypt showing the power of a civilization, Brasil letting see its energetic and colorful culture, and Mexico “a mosaic of cultures”. All of them were just great.

We had the privilege to have an exposition made by Mexican kids dedicated to the centennial of Mexico independence, plus originals books with 9 of the different spoken languages in Mexico.
Here is a short and non formal interview with the "Agregada Cultural" of Mexico about her country, the exposition "Esta es mi México", the books in different languages and comments for our kids in GLM. The interview is in Spanish due to the passion of this extraordinary towards her culture.

There are some pictures of the teachers who totally tried to be loyal to the traditions and most significant aspects of each of the countries ... Bravo!

1. ¿Quién es y que hace Silvia Márquéz? Soy la Agregada Cultural de la Embajada de México, me encargo de los asuntos que tienen que ver con la disfusión de la cultura mexicana.

2. ¿Como describe Silvia a México? México en un mosaico de culturas diversas y civilizaciones, es una diversidad de climas y de personas, etnias, lenguas. Un gran mural de colores vivos que entiende su pasado y se cobija bajo una misma bandera.

3. ¿En que consiste la muestra o los dibujos de "Esta es mi México"? Cuantos dibujos se hicieron en total? El concurso se realiza desde hace 13 años y se ha constituido en una tradición en la que niños que viven fuera de México, entre los 7 y 11 años de edad, han plasmado en vivos colores e ingeniosas formas las costumbres y tradiciones de nuestro país.

La edición 2009 del certamen fue dedicada al Bicentenario de la Independencia y Centenario de la Revolución Mexicana. En total se recibieron seis mil 266 dibujos, de los cuales 120 mejores fueron seleccionados para ser presentados al público a las Embajadas. Se hizo una selección de estos que se presentan en una colección.

¿Cúal es su objetivo? Que los niños que viven fuera sigan las tradiciones mexicanas y se sientan identificados con sus raíces.

4. ¿Por qué los libros se escriben tambien en las lenguas indigenas? Porque son lenguas vivas es decir se hablan en la actualidad y es una forma de acercar lecturas a sus manos en las lenguas nativas de cada región , historias que son comunes para todos los niños mexicanos.

5. ¿Es verdad que el chocolate es originario de México? ¿Cómo se pronuncia xocolatl? ( escribelo como se pronuncia en español) shocolatl es el cacao. Si es originario de México y era una bebida estimulante que generalmente la tomaban en ceremonias mezclada con agua.

México también aportó al mundo el Jitomate ( tomate) y el maiz, el nopal, los aguacates, el agave con lo que se hace el tequila, las dalias , la vainilla la flor de nochebuena y una enorme cantidad de chiles ( aji)

6. ¿Culturalmente cúal es la mayor riqueza de México? Su herencia y preservación? Diría yo la conciencia de la variadas culturas, es decir toda su gente y lo que hacemos. saber que tenemos un patrimonio cultural y tradiciones que nos identifican como únicos, como para Colombia es el sombrero vueltiado.

7. ¿Cuál es el mayor producto de consumo? Los dulces enchilados!! la tortilla de maíz es el producto básico tanto como lo es las papas para los colombianos.

8. Se conservan las lenguas. ¿La moneda también? No la moneda, se usaba mayoritariamente el cacao la base del chocolate.,

9. Les puedes enviar unas palabras a nuestros niños del GLM. (Solo y solo si puedes). Son niños inteligentes, y con grandes posibilidades. Pero sobre todo niños...

Por supuesto! "Hoy que en una breve charla se acercan a ver las costumbres y las formas de ver la vida de otros países en el "Rally por el mundo", sé que lo pueden hacer con imaginación.
Piensen que los lugares y las cosas que les mostramos, cuando se ven con una mirada curiosa y con espíritu de explorador, nos permiten damos cuenta de que somos más parecidos como seres humanos en lo esencial: nuestras risas, nuestros gustos y nuestras historias, y a la vez podemos valorar aquello que nos hace diferentes, diversos y por ello también, aquello que es divertido!"

Modeling how to write about our talent!

Here is a short composition a friend of the school wrote about his talent two years ago... he gladly accompanied us for the previous two years to open our project. This year he can´t come because he moved back to his native country with his entire family. However, l talked to him about sharing what he had written for us about his knack for music before, and he agreed to let you go into his paper and discover something about his life...

I shouldn’t say I, but rather my mother discovered my knack for music at the age of two. Where most kids that age have play time, I had practice time. With my mother at the piano and my sisters at my side, I had to practice for one hour every day. This translated into concerts around town at various churches. We were called The Popp Family Singers. My first solo came at the ripe age of three.

As an adolescent, I was invol-ved with a group called The Kansas Boys Choir. We met once a week to practice, performed in various venues around town, and went on tour in June and July. I was constantly involved in some kind of musical or choir activity. There was no such thing as down time. During high school, I involved myself in choir and band, in which I played the Euphonium. I ended up studying Music Education at the University of Nebraska, all the while singing with Opera Omaha in the evenings. After moving to Japan, the singing ceased for a while, but I picked it up again by singing Japanese traditional songs at various coffee or tea houses with a traditional Japanese instrument called the Okarina.

Nowadays, I can’t say that I have been singing like I should. I moved to Colombia on June 16, 2008 and was immediately immersed in my work, not to mention a wedding. The voice is an instrument, and just like any other instrument, one needs to practice daily to prevent it from going out of shape. These days I sing at weddings and other celebrations, but I hope to find a group or something to get me back into the swing of things. Music truly brings joy to my life.

Fourth graders started to get ready for the Talent Show. We started singing: "I am a Promise". It is a quite famous song for little kids in US. They are discovering or letting their pals know about their likes and their talents...Awesome experience! Liliana
